Ever want to challenge your horse and yourself? Fording 3 foot deep rushing water in a 40 foot wide river, steep slippery clay banks, hills, trails, mud bogs, bridges, woods, roots with 2 foot deep holes just big enough to swallow your horse's leg. That's what the Mule Skinners Poker Ride can offer you. Over the years that became laise faire, so they added a challenge trail course, making your horse do things you would never see on a natural trail ride like, going through shower curtains, deep ditches, see-saw planks, scary styrofoam predators, etc. Camping is available, folks are friendly, so it's a big party for the old timers at least. Oh yah, and you can win prizes if you collect the right cards along the ride of 3 hours. Be able to mount and dismount whenever, sometimes you might choose to walk your horse out there. Be really careful of trails twisting through the tight trees, some people break their knees and legs while getting caught on those trees. Sound like fun? We thought so. We survived and here is an after picture to prove it...
3 Families are shown here. Some rode, some hiked, some hung out at camp and participated in various activities like: conversing, playing music, drinkin beer, housekeeping the vehicles, photography.
There are probably a couple of hundred horses at the peak of the day. People are always moving in and out. There is a re-enactment camp going on the same weekend at at camp next door. We are seperate, but if you like history you might check that out.
